Gimnasio Fontana
Gimnasio Fontana was founded in September
1986 and offers a bilingual education to nearly 700 students, grades
K-12. It will be recognized in Colombia as a bilingual school which
strategically undergoes change.
The school aims to have international accreditation within the next
five years. It will be recognized in Colombia as a bilingual school.
It has an innovative educational option that integrates the sciences
and the arts, and develops creativity and critical thinking for
the construction of knowledge. It educates students to be bilingual
(English-Spanish) and to be proficient in a third language (French).
Students in their last two years (grades 10th and 11th) select an
emphasis according to their interests, abilities, and possible future
studies: emphasis in philosophy and political science,emphasis in
biology and chemistry or emphasis in Physics and Mathematics. In
the area of Aesthetics, students in their last four years (grades
eight to eleven) are able to focus in one of the following areas:
music, drama, fine arts, TV and Radio production and information
technology. As additional support for talented students or students
with diffulties, the school is fortunate to have available a center
staffed by four psycholgists, one language therapist, one resource
teacher and one special needs teacher. They conduct the "Life Skills
Programs" which includes: substance abuse prevention, conflict management,
learning skills and carreer counseling. In order to promote positive
use of leisure time the school offers the following after school
activities: chorus, band, modeling clay, theatre, dance, horseback
riding, swimming, soccer, basketball, volleyball, baseball, gymnastics
and cheerleading.
